Hi, I'm Cas, if you do not know who I am, allow me to explain:
Aside from being a writer, producer, and overall hottie - I give THE BEST movie & show recommendations. It’s a responsibility, a job that I do not take lightly, and one in which I find great pride. While I can admit that my personal standards are quite low (meaning I enjoy just about anything), I consider my clients’ specific wants/needs when prescribing entertainment.
This winter, get your nose the heck out of your phone and watch some TV!
Below, I’ll be breaking down some recommendations based on the following criteria:
Watch Difficulty: Established by episode length, overall show pacing, and the ability to multitask
Mood/Emotion Evoked
Your Current Interests
INSECURE
Overview: This series centres best friends, Issa and Molly as they navigate relationships, career, and coming of adulthood. Amazing cinematography, fitting music choices, with relatable storyline and cultural references.
Watch Difficulty: Easy - episodes are short and jam packed with all the juice. A great mix of comedy and drama, done tastefully.
Prescribed to: Those who have an affinity for a little bit of tea and a lot of bit of introspection.
EMILY IN PARIS
Overview: Emily, an eager marketing exec heads to Paris (omg) for a job opportunity. Settling into the culture takes some time, but she quickly finds herself immersed in drama, love and the cutthroat world of upscale media & marketing.
Watch Difficulty: Easy - episodes are upbeat with a lot of movement. Some predictable storyline arcs, but others... you’d never guess.
Prescribed to: The hopeless romantic, perhaps a traveller who may or may not have experienced a breakup or some lulls in their romantic lives.
SURVIVAL OF THE THICKEST
Overview: A feelgood show that takes place on the New York art scene. When Mavis, an aspiring stylists’ world crumbles, she rebuilds a life where she’s the main character. A life that requires an unwavering belief in self, the openness to live outside of the comfort zone, and some major motherfucking hustle.
Watch Difficulty: Easy - instantly, we have substantial momentum… let’s just say it starts with a “bang”. The way it’s shot pays homage to the authentic New York experience, the costume and set design are chefs kiss, and the music is fire.
Prescribed to: The dreamer, the person who has difficulty finding audacity, and the “best friend” turned “main character”.
FIREFLY LANE
Overview: A heartfelt story that follows two women and their friendship from youth into adulthood and middle age. As they grow through colossal life changes, relationships, family, career goals and personal aspirations - one thing never wavers, their love.
Writer’s note: this is such a great series, I mean.. I don’t even use words like “heartfelt”.
Watch Difficulty: Medium - the show moves rather slow to give viewers a thorough understanding of characters and plot. This is not the kind of show you can multitask while watching. Expect small easter eggs and canny callbacks.
Prescribed to: Anyone who has ever had a best friend.
SCANDAL
Overview: “fixer” and ultimate PR baddie, Olivia Pope finds herself in the middle of the world's largest political scandals. Working with her highly competent team and the White House as their top client, Olivia goes through a 7 season transformation filled with crime, coverups, romance, and betrayals.
Watch Difficulty: Medium - the details in the show, both verbal and non-verbal are extremely important to the overall series. Some seasons are stronger than others, please see it through!
Prescribed to: The boss bitch, the bad bitch OR those who are searching for their inner boss bitch/bad bitch.
