PLEASE NOTE: THIS PROJECT HAS ENDED:

TO SEE OUTCOME, SCROLL TO BOTTOM!

PERIOD.

Menstruation around the world is met with different beliefs. In some cultures, menstruation is observed as a rite of passage, in others it's perceived as unclean, indecent, and taboo - one thing remains constant and true; that is, menstruation is not a choice.

A BILLION DOLLAR INDUSTRY

Most public washrooms in Canada provide toilet paper, soap, and paper towels free of charge, as these are seen as the "necessities". On the other hand, feminine hygiene products are not met with the same consideration, interesting right? It comes at no surprise that this industry has remained remarkably profitable.. well, because these products are a necessity, these products are essential.

Period poverty isn't a new concept and the mission to increase access is large one. So Dope Haus is biting off a "chew-able" size to make change in our own community. Here's the plan Stan:

Step 1: CONNECT

With our Dope Ass Community (of mostly women), we will band together to support four young people in the Regent Park and Mid Scarborough neighbourhoods (it's a small bubble, but quality>quantity)

Step 2: FUNDRAISE

Fundraising will occur through sales of the Period Pouch (a cute little bag for all your period supplies, tampons, pads, cups, whatever) click here to get your Period Pouch for $1. Dope Haus will cover the shipping costs as our contribution to the movement (keeping those prices down!) Donors will pay only the cost for the product plus their preferred donation amount.

Step 3: ACCOUNTABILITY

As always, accountability is key, individual donor initials and donation amounts will be listed on the website and social media (girl we will share ALL the receipts oh-kaaaaay!)

Step 4: THE GIVEBACK

Each young person will receive enough period products for ONE YEAR... so basically we're giving out period scholarships.. (lol at "period scholarships", but you get the drift). Please note that we will not be sourcing products from the larger stakeholders like Proctor and Gamble, Johnson & Johnson etc.

FAQs

Q: Where are you sourcing the period products?

A: As of now (this will be updated once a decision is made), we're down to a few local vendors - trying to stick with something organic while supporting a company we can get down with. If you have a company you like, email dopehausco@gmail.com

Q: Why did you choose to support Regent Park and Scarborough only?

A:  I (Cas), am a little bit of a control freak. With solid connections in each community, I can ensure that the packages are going to youth who are in need

Q: Will you do this again?

A: Who knows!?!! Maybe something bigger will come next! Always growing, growing always

Q: I'm being charged tax, is that money also going towards the project?

A: Yesssss, unfortunately we can only have ONE tax setting for all products *rolls eyes*

Q: How can I get involved?

A: By helping promote this fundraiser with your network! Collecting donations from friends and purchasing the Period Pouches for the group, if you want to be an ambassador please email dopehausco@gmail.com, it would be amazing!

Q: When does this campaign end?

A: September 19th, 2020

A DOPE ASS COMMUNITY

My favourite part about Dope Haus the the dope community I get to be a part of. My "in real life" homies plus my new internet friends (yes, internet friends), I'm super grateful for everyone. This is gonna sound absolutely cliché, but without you all, this truly could NOT happen.

Love ya!

Ok, let's get to business.

THAT "REAL-REAL"

Although this project wrapped up on September 19th, 2020, packages weren't put together until October 7th, 2020. I knew when starting this project that I really didn't want to support any of the big box brands, simply because the "industry" itself is based on bullshit. With that being said, I shopped around for smaller brands and organic options, ordered samples and everything (because I wanted to see the quality myself) and I have to say, we're really lacking lol.

I'm sure there's something out there that fits the bill, but giiiirrrrllll, I ain't find it yet lol. So what the teens are getting this time around is a mix of the best natural brand I could find AND a big box brand *rolls eyes*.

A HUGE THANK YOU

As always, here's the transparency. Everyone who was a part of this mission, you the fuckin' best!! To see donor list, click here. Receipts coming soon! Just gotta scan the bad boys.
